Judging by my experience, this is not very reliable and I would say an unnecessary detail! For 6 years of owning a car and 152 thousand of its mileage, I replaced three cranes. Zavodskoy lived for about 3 years (mileage of about 75 thousand km.). He was replaced by a ceramic crane company LUZAR, which lived for about a year (Mileage about 35 thousand km.). Then he replaced it with a YVVA crane, also ceramic. He lived for 1.5 years with a range of 35 thousand km. (Jammed in the spring in the open position. As it turned out, when it was disassembled, a rubber o-ring popped out and was bitten by a flap.) ()
Even with the last replacement, studying the Internet, I thought to delete this part. Put just a fitting! So many do. Or there was another interesting option: put a new crane, lock it in the open position (do not connect the rod). But since this happened in the winter, there was no warm garage and no time for experiments, I set it up as it was. Hoping that YVVA will be better! Alas, she did not live up to my expectations! After the spring jammed in the open position. (Visually there were no smudges of antifreeze on the tap). There was no urgent need to change the faucet, so I decided to ride like that, to see how it would be in the heat with an open faucet (Will hot air blow from the deflectors and blow hot air around my legs). But, to my surprise, there wasn’t any discomfort! The damper did an excellent job! Yes, the hoses going to the radiator were hot, but they did not affect the temperature in the cabin. Then the idea arose of removing the Crane from the system!
After reading the information about this, how and what people do (there is even seen in YouTube). I started the preparation! He talked about the conceived father-in-law. He happily (fitted) fittings that were suitable for me (He also had interesting ideas for reworking the stove in his car, but they never came true, in connection with the sale of the car.) Having collected everything I needed, I started work!

Alas, the fittings began to fall into the holes in the body. The frame bent and loosely fixed the fittings (the hoses bent out (((). I decided to temporarily leave it so that I would come up with another option for fixing the fittings (more rigid and reliable). This was not a good idea, because the idea was delayed, and on the weekend there were showers (puddles in some places were knee-deep, I just had to swim on them) and the field of these trips was flooded with a salon (There were puddles under the rugs, in the literal sense there was water!) I think if I did it right at once, this wasn’t .
I had to completely disassemble the interior. While it was drying (About a week). Invented and manufactured a new insert instead of a tap. The basis was taken from the wound of the replaced LUZAR crane.

Crane dismantling

Go to the passenger compartment to the front passenger seat. To the left of the passenger’s feet there is a panel cover. It must be removed by unscrewing the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. With a 10-key, we unscrew the nuts of the crane fastening. Next, we remove the broken locking device from the front passenger side.

Installing a new heater tap

The crane is mounted in the reverse order. First, we attach it to the body, tightening the nuts on the studs, after which we connect the drive cable. Clamps on the nozzles should also be replaced with new ones. Pay attention to the condition of the hoses. If their ends are too stretched or cracks occur, it is better to replace them. If everything is okay with them, connect them to the tap and clamp the clamps with a screwdriver. The panel cover is not in place yet. We will need to check the tightness of the connections with the engine running.


That, in principle, is the whole process. As you can see, replacing the VAZ-2114 heater faucet with your own hands is not such a difficult task.

Completion and leak test

Upon completion of work, we return to the car and tighten the drain plug. After that, pour coolant into the radiator neck, focusing on its level in the expansion tank.

Next, we have to make a flare. To do this, drill 4 holes through (size from 0.1 to 3 mm.). This should be done strictly along the edge of the rolling. Do not bend the drill to the middle of the cover. The next step is to drill a rivet, which is in the cone, remove the shabby cuff and the rest of the rivet. You get a hole where you need to make the M4 thread.

How to remove and replace the heater tap

Work on replacing the stove crane on a VAZ 2114 machine is performed according to the following algorithm:

  1. Before starting work, make sure that the engine is completely cooled. Having installed the car in the pit, remove the crankcase protection.
  2. Then you need to drain the coolant from the engine block (drain bolt behind the ignition module) and the cooling radiator (faucet below), as well as from the pipes going to the faucet from the engine compartment. At the same time, handle the stud nuts with a wrench, let them bounce, until the moment when we unscrew the faucet, this will greatly facilitate its dismantling.
  3. Further in the cabin, from the front passenger side, you need to remove the side trim of the torpedo (unscrew 5 screws) and remove the mat to get to the faucet and its nozzles.
  4. So that the cabin does not flood with antifreeze when the hoses are removed (loosening the clamps with a Phillips screwdriver), the first thing you need to do is lay a rag.
  5. In order to conveniently remove the tap, it is better to remove the nozzles from the stove.
  6. They will return again under the car and with a key or a head on “10”, unscrew the de-nuts from the studs and rise again to the salon.
  7. With pliers and a screwdriver with a flat blade, disconnect the cable to the crane locking mechanism, after removing the bracket holding the rod. It will be more convenient to do this on the driver’s side, but there you will also have to remove the trim.
  8. Now you can extract the culprit of all events.
  9. Take a new crane and install it in the same place, after replacing the rubber gaskets. We install the control cable in place, check the tension.
  10. We carry out the same steps in reverse order. Be careful when tightening the pipe clamps, especially on through plastic. Indeed, if you do not hold out, then in cold weather it will begin to suck in air, but if you pull it over, then many cranes have a plastic quality that simply bursts.

After installation, it remains only to verify its operation. Turn on the fan by opening the air intake flap. Open-close access of coolant to the stove. If the flow is blocked, the air temperature in the cabin should decrease. But do not rush to install the side linings back and during the check, see if the crane runs back, since such cases have occurred more than once, especially if it is ceramic. They all have one common disease - it begins to flow from under the lever of constipation. And all because the two o-rings that stand there are either weak or wear out quickly during operation.

One of the controversial decisions is moving the heating tap under the hood and replacing it with a regular household one.
